We recently worked on a Victorian home in Campbellford, Ontario that needed some masonry repairs. Over the years, parts of the original lime mortar had started to break down and become soft. This can let water in and cause more damage if it’s not fixed. We removed the loose and deteriorated mortar and repointed those areas using a proper lime-based mix that better matches the original materials.
While going over the house, we found some spots where other companies had done repairs using Type N mortar. This type of mortar is harder than what should be used on older homes and can actually cause damage over time. We took those sections out and relaid them using heritage replica brick so it would match the rest of the house and function properly.
We also repointed parts of the stone foundation where the joints had worn out. This helps keep the structure solid and reduces the chance of water getting in around the base of the home.
Older homes like this need the right materials and approach to make sure the repairs last and don’t cause more problems down the line. Taking the time to do it properly makes a big difference. We were also able to complete the work at a cost that met the homeowner’s budget.
We proudly service areas including Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville, Port Hope, Peterborough, Cobourg, Trenton, Belleville, and everywhere in between.
