We recently built two large chimneys for a heritage home in Newcastle, Ontario. The project required careful attention to detail to match the style of the original house. To make sure the new chimneys blended in, we used a lime mortar that was color-matched to the existing walls. We also used reclaimed bricks, which helped keep the historical look of the home.
During the job, we found bees nesting in some of the old brickwork. Since bees are often attracted to cracks in older masonry, we took care to safely remove them before continuing the project. In the end, the new chimneys match the heritage design of the house as well they add strength and beauty while maintaining the home's historic charm.
