Last summer in Cobourg, Ontario, Durham Chimney & Masonry Repair had the opportunity to work alongside another masonry company on a Victorian home restoration. It was a great project to be part of and a chance to help bring new life to an older building.
We relaid brick under several windows where the masonry had started to wear down over time. These areas were carefully taken apart and rebuilt to restore strength and match the rest of the home.
We also rebuilt two jack arches in a new opening. These are important structural features in older brick homes, and they need to be built carefully so they can properly support the weight above while keeping the original style.
Lime mortar was used throughout the project. This is commonly used in older buildings because it allows the brick to move and breathe naturally, helping protect the structure over time.
This project is part of the work we do across Cobourg, Port Hope, Brighton, and Peterborough. We take pride in helping preserve and restore historic Victorian homes throughout these communities, keeping their original character and craftsmanship alive while ensuring they remain strong for the future.
